Roads Beyond Thirty: a level 31-100 road guide¶
Generated from
content/geography/high-journey.json. Every stage names shipped rooms and resident help. Existing creature templates and spawns remain authoritative; this guide does not manufacture a level band to make a table look continuous.
Beyond level thirty, the Hearth does not become one east-to-west combat corridor. Three finite fronts remain attached to their own hubs: the Hallward Traverse above Rimefield Gate, the Singing Descent below Hammerdeep, and Marchhold's vertical reckoning. The Crownward Road is different: Wyrmshoulder passes through the Iron Gate into one contiguous high ladder ending at the Wyrm's Crack.
Topological adjacency still means you can move there, not the places are a few yards apart. A room step may represent a hard climb, a long exposed traverse, a relay handoff or a descent on the counting-line. ROUTES names the staffed markers; the room graph remains the final truth about movement.
The routes at a glance¶
| Route | Levels | Shape | Geographic truth |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Hallward Traverse | 31-32 → 31-32 | short frontier · The final High Shelves halls extend the mountain road through levels thirty-one and thirty-two, then end honestly. | Reach the High Shelves through Rimefield Gate. This route does not connect underground to the Singing Veins or Wyrmshoulder; return to the surface network when changing fronts. |
| The Singing Descent | 31-33 → 34-36 | working underroad · Hammerdeep's sealed Deep Road descends through the First Vein, Quiet Workings and Chord Galleries from levels thirty-one to thirty-six. | Enter from Hammerdeep below its gate. The Veins are their own descending branch and do not secretly join the High Shelves or Wyrmshoulder. |
| The Marchhold Reckoning | 31-32 → 41-47 | institutional ruin · One castle holds distinct bands from the late walls through Scald Hall and the Toll Vaults, ending at level forty-seven. | Marchhold remains the eastern fork reached from its shore and road network. Its floors are vertically close on a topology map but socially, historically and mechanically distinct. |
| The Crownward Road | 34-40 → 90-100 | contiguous high ladder · Wyrmshoulder passes through the Iron Gate into a single high-level chain of seven staffed returns and hunting bands through level one hundred. | This is the one continuous route in the guide: Wyrmshoulder to Crown proper, Ramparts, Underchain, Perch, Ledger Stone, Root Hang and the Crack. The stations are recovery institutions, not towns. |
Before going higher:
- Use
ROUTESorROUTES <route>for live markers, route order, level span and named staff. - Use
WRIT LISTonly at a local desk. Ordinary lists stop before each area's named apex or singular social culmination. - Use
ASSESS <creature>in mixed bands such as Marchhold. One castle outline does not make every floor the same level. - Read the return and closure boards. Staffed stations are creature-free institutions; the branches outside them remain dangerous.
- Watch
SHOP. The Crownward and deep-line relays create regional delivery signals; storms and cold snaps remove imports, change stock and alter prices.
The Hallward Traverse¶
The final High Shelves halls extend the mountain road through levels thirty-one and thirty-two, then end honestly.
Topology: Reach the High Shelves through Rimefield Gate. This route does not connect underground to the Singing Veins or Wyrmshoulder; return to the surface network when changing fronts.
| Step | Levels | Ground | Region | Resident help |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 31-32 | Hallward Doors & the Last Cairn | highshelves | Glassward Surveyor Leth Arclight, Doorward Ilyen Snowglass |
1. Hallward Doors & the Last Cairn (levels 31-32)¶
Reach it: Recover at the staffed Rimefield Gate, cross the Under-Ice only with a known retreat, and use the reversible white-cord markers toward the Last Cairn and Hallward Doors.
Shape of the ground: This is a compact capstone to the High Shelves, not the start of an unseen continent. Work the hallward and margin-doorward rooms, then return through the same surveyed threshold.
People who make the place legible:
- Glassward Surveyor Leth Arclight (room 2470): bearings, changing ice, witnessed returns and the Hallward endpoint.
- Doorward Ilyen Snowglass (room 2400): WRIT LIST, the staffed Rimefield refuge and the difference between marker and haven.
Why it matters locally: Measured crossings keep the pass insurable. Hallward fittings, ice samples and ward observations go to Hammerdeep, Highreach and the survey archive only when their place and condition survive the return.
Warning
The Last Cairn is a marker, not a safe room. Level thirty-two is this route's honest end; return to a hub instead of waiting for a fictional deeper band.
The Singing Descent¶
Hammerdeep's sealed Deep Road descends through the First Vein, Quiet Workings and Chord Galleries from levels thirty-one to thirty-six.
Topology: Enter from Hammerdeep below its gate. The Veins are their own descending branch and do not secretly join the High Shelves or Wyrmshoulder.
| Step | Levels | Ground | Region | Resident help |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 31-33 | Deep Road & First Vein | hammerdeep | Resonance Clerk Maud Chordwise, Deep Physician Orren Vell, Assay Factor Tessa Harmonic |
| 2 | 34-36 | Quiet Workings & Chord Galleries | hammerdeep | Resonance Clerk Maud Chordwise, Assay Factor Tessa Harmonic |
1. Deep Road & First Vein (levels 31-33)¶
Reach it: From Hammerdeep, descend below the sealed gate and check in at the protected Muster Hall before crossing into the First Vein.
Shape of the ground: The road, galleries and first round provide several retreatable circuits around a staffed side hall; the quiet trunk itself remains a route rather than an uninterrupted hunting belt.
People who make the place legible:
- Resonance Clerk Maud Chordwise (room 2709): WRIT LIST, gallery pitches, repeatable work and return pegs.
- Deep Physician Orren Vell (room 2709): healing, pressure, hearing injuries and rescue readiness.
- Assay Factor Tessa Harmonic (room 2710): provisions, visible shortages, provenance and material destinations.
Why it matters locally: The First Vein consumes lamp oil, medicine and rope while sending assayed ore, repair knowledge and hazard reports back to Hammerdeep. A delivered relay fills imports; a closure leaves visible empty shelves.
Warning
Warm air is not safety. Check hearing and pressure after return, and do not infer that a short room path represents a short underground shift.
2. Quiet Workings & Chord Galleries (levels 34-36)¶
Reach it: Continue from the Shift Gate through the Quiet Workings and Chord Galleries, keeping the staffed Muster Hall as the recovery point and Survey's End as the final signed marker.
Shape of the ground: Shift houses, return rounds and tuned galleries form a deep exploratory complex whose sound changes carry both creature and historical information.
People who make the place legible:
- Resonance Clerk Maud Chordwise (room 2709): ordinary shift work, sound reports and the apex exclusion.
- Assay Factor Tessa Harmonic (room 2710): proof handling, claims, repair destinations and supply state.
Why it matters locally: Recovered tools and witnessed resonance samples alter forge practice, medical preparation and mine closures. Anonymous glitter is less valuable than a plain fitting with a gallery and pitch.
Warning
The Choirmaster is level thirty-six singular work and never an ordinary writ. Survey's End closes this branch; return to Hammerdeep before choosing another front.
The Marchhold Reckoning¶
One castle holds distinct bands from the late walls through Scald Hall and the Toll Vaults, ending at level forty-seven.
Topology: Marchhold remains the eastern fork reached from its shore and road network. Its floors are vertically close on a topology map but socially, historically and mechanically distinct.
| Step | Levels | Ground | Region | Resident help |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 31-32 | Midden Ward & Inner Walls | marchhold | Muster Clerk Ada Mere, Relief Archivist Mara Venn |
| 2 | 33-40 | Scald Hall & Upper Keep | marchhold | Relief Archivist Mara Venn, Stable Courier Tor Aldren |
| 3 | 41-47 | Undercroft, Crypt & Toll Vaults | marchhold | Relief Archivist Mara Venn, Muster Clerk Ada Mere |
1. Midden Ward & Inner Walls (levels 31-32)¶
Reach it: Recover at Muster Green or the protected Relief Stable, then work the upper end of the outer ward with ASSESS rather than assuming every room shares level thirty-one.
Shape of the ground: Yards, kitchens, stores and walls make a social ruin whose older low-band inhabitants remain mixed with the level-thirty-one and thirty-two end of the ward.
People who make the place legible:
- Muster Clerk Ada Mere (room 3502): WRIT LIST, outer-ward work and the staffed green.
- Relief Archivist Mara Venn (room 3508): claims, household records, evidence and floor-band orientation.
Why it matters locally: Recovered issue marks connect the garrison's relief to living families and fields. Evidence changes claims and obligations; it is not merely castle loot.
Warning
This range still contains earlier creatures. ASSESS locally and move into Scald Hall when the level-thirty-one-to-thirty-two work no longer fits.
2. Scald Hall & Upper Keep (levels 33-40)¶
Reach it: Follow the relief marker from the Stable Court into Scald Hall, the upper household rooms and the watch floors.
Shape of the ground: Hall, chapel remains, private rooms and towers expose the institutions behind the toll law instead of presenting a featureless vertical dungeon.
People who make the place legible:
- Relief Archivist Mara Venn (room 3508): household provenance, living claimants and the Scald Hall return marker.
- Stable Courier Tor Aldren (room 3508): closure news, remounts, road receipts and downstream consequences.
Why it matters locally: Books, seals, tack and relief records route toward named archives, claimants and working road offices. Weather closures delay messages before they delay food, if the courier system is healthy.
Warning
The upper keep rises from level thirty-three to forty. Proximity to the protected stable below does not make any interior floor safe.
3. Undercroft, Crypt & Toll Vaults (levels 41-47)¶
Reach it: Take the black-edged marker at the undercroft stair foot, carry light, and retain the Relief Stable as the named staffed return.
Shape of the ground: The undercroft, cells, strong room, crypt and undervault turn law, punishment, relief and burial into connected exploration rather than disconnected combat rooms.
People who make the place legible:
- Relief Archivist Mara Venn (room 3508): Toll Vault boundaries, sealed evidence and unresolved relief accounts.
- Muster Clerk Ada Mere (room 3502): current March work, supplies and the safe outer return.
Why it matters locally: Vault evidence can settle debt, expose false toll claims or redirect relief. The strongest monetary room is valuable precisely because its silver was issued rather than hoarded.
Warning
The castellan is the level-forty-seven culmination. It is named work, not an endlessly required quota; Marchhold ends here.
The Crownward Road¶
Wyrmshoulder passes through the Iron Gate into a single high-level chain of seven staffed returns and hunting bands through level one hundred.
Topology: This is the one continuous route in the guide: Wyrmshoulder to Crown proper, Ramparts, Underchain, Perch, Ledger Stone, Root Hang and the Crack. The stations are recovery institutions, not towns.
| Step | Levels | Ground | Region | Resident help |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 34-40 | Wyrmshoulder & the Iron Gate | wyrmcrown | Stair-Warden Brann Lastmark, Quartermaster Ossa Greycord, Cairn-Walker Niall Rook |
| 2 | 41-50 | Crown Proper & Palewatch | wyrmcrown | Return Clerk Vessa Rune, Crown Factor Halden Brace |
| 3 | 50-58 | Ember Ramparts | wyrmcrown | Rampart Writ-Keeper Tern Ashglass, Relay-Master Rurik Bale |
| 4 | 58-68 | Underchain | wyrmcrown | Rescue Tally Nema Coil, Underchain Factor Bera Pin |
| 5 | 68-78 | Ash Perch | wyrmcrown | Crossing Scribe Oren Vale, Wind Surgeon Kaia Rime |
| 6 | 79 | Ledger Stone Interval | wyrmcrown | Hang Writ-Keeper Varo Sound, Deep-Line Quartermaster Eryn Ledger |
| 7 | 80-89 | Root Hang | wyrmcrown | Hang Writ-Keeper Varo Sound, Deep-Line Quartermaster Eryn Ledger |
| 8 | 90-100 | Wyrm's Crack & Line's End | wyrmcrown | Crack Proof-Keeper Kest Harrow, Rift Receiver Mael Stillglass |
1. Wyrmshoulder & the Iron Gate (levels 34-40)¶
Reach it: Use the Highreach road to Wyrmshoulder, register at the protected Crownward Muster, then follow the Graven Stair and gatewatch remains to the Iron Gate.
Shape of the ground: Fells, barrows, fort remains and gatewatch courts make a broad approach with multiple branches while the staffed old survey camp holds the return.
People who make the place legible:
- Stair-Warden Brann Lastmark (room 2970): WRIT LIST, healing, return tokens and the Iron Gate threshold.
- Quartermaster Ossa Greycord (room 2970): provisions, visible freight effects and mountain equipment.
- Cairn-Walker Niall Rook (room 2970): moving trail news, marker condition and social traffic.
Why it matters locally: The Muster consumes road goods and produces survey reports, repaired markers and proof that keeps the route insurable. Freight travels by changing relays, never by an imaginary wagon above the gate.
Warning
The graven sexton is the level-forty culmination and is excluded from ordinary work. The Iron Gate leads directly into level-forty-one country.
2. Crown Proper & Palewatch (levels 41-50)¶
Reach it: Pass through the Iron Gate and treat Survey Return as the region's principal fire, task desk, market signal and death-return institution.
Shape of the ground: Palewatch courts, crown shelves and relic approaches form the first continuous Crown circuit above Wyrmshoulder.
People who make the place legible:
- Return Clerk Vessa Rune (room 3317): WRIT LIST, healing, death-return protocol and search obligations.
- Crown Factor Halden Brace (room 3317): provisions, freight state, provenance and material destinations.
Why it matters locally: Survey data, hides and recovered fittings move downward; medicine, lamp oil and cloth move upward. Weather and relay position visibly change stock and price.
Warning
The reliquary warden and gilded provost are named escalations rather than ordinary quotas. Survey Return is the only regional death-return fire, not a full town.
3. Ember Ramparts (levels 50-58)¶
Reach it: Follow the old signal line from Survey Return to the protected Standing Lantern, then work the ash and vigil branches beyond its white circle.
Shape of the ground: Exposed shelves, signal ruins and vigil positions create a branching rampart complex with a visible staffed center.
People who make the place legible:
- Rampart Writ-Keeper Tern Ashglass (room 3358): WRIT LIST, vigil ranks, closures and signal interpretation.
- Relay-Master Rurik Bale (room 3358): moving freight, porter schedules and weather consequences.
Why it matters locally: A lit signal lets closures reach markets before shortages do. Rampart fittings and soot records support route maintenance; relay arrivals ease every Wyrmcrown market using that regional signal.
Warning
The white flame marks a haven, not an open branch. Read the closure drum; the blind vigilant is the level-fifty-eight culmination.
4. Underchain (levels 58-68)¶
Reach it: Descend from the Ramparts to the protected Cold Stall and take only a branch for which a numbered rescue harness and second team are recorded.
Shape of the ground: Chain ways, undershifts, flues and pin approaches form a deep working system; the safe stall sits outside its ordinary populations.
People who make the place legible:
- Rescue Tally Nema Coil (room 3414): WRIT LIST, healing, rescue harnesses and search teams.
- Underchain Factor Bera Pin (room 3414): provisions, repair-grade salvage, quarantine and supply state.
Why it matters locally: Recovered links and flue glass route first to repair, evidence and quarantine. A delayed relay removes imports while local substitutes and traveler buy offers rise.
Warning
The pin anchorite is the level-sixty-eight culmination and never routine. Rescue precedes salvage even when the recovered material is rare.
5. Ash Perch (levels 68-78)¶
Reach it: Climb from the chain ways to the protected Windward Stone, take a numbered crossing token, and compare outward and actual return paths.
Shape of the ground: Slab fields, gulf crossings, ash roosts and attained positions form an exposed high circuit around one practiced shelter.
People who make the place legible:
- Crossing Scribe Oren Vale (room 3374): WRIT LIST, crossing records and attained social ranks.
- Wind Surgeon Kaia Rime (room 3374): healing, exposure, falls and delayed confusion.
Why it matters locally: Crossing records protect porters and searchers; Perch fauna and attained evidence enter distinct material and historical accounts rather than one anonymous loot stream.
Warning
The Firstpresent is the level-seventy-eight social and combat culmination. Rest before the descent; there is no ordinary level-seventy-nine hunting band.
6. Ledger Stone Interval (levels 79)¶
Reach it: Move from the Perch to the protected Ledger Stone, resupply, learn the counting-line and record who will listen for the descent.
Shape of the ground: This is intentionally one staffed transition room rather than a fabricated hunting loop.
People who make the place legible:
- Hang Writ-Keeper Varo Sound (room 3445): the level-seventy-nine transition, healing and the first Root Hang work.
- Deep-Line Quartermaster Eryn Ledger (room 3445): provisions, chain-cradle freight and visible lower-route shortages.
Why it matters locally: Preparation consumes supplies and witnesses a deep-line handoff. The absence of routine prey does not make the interval economically or socially empty.
Warning
Do not wait here for a level-seventy-nine creature. Ash Perch ends at seventy-eight; Root Hang begins at eighty.
7. Root Hang (levels 80-89)¶
Reach it: Descend from Ledger Stone only after a counting-line test and work the root, grain, Sounded and lower count branches.
Shape of the ground: Suspended roots, old grain ways, Sounded stations and count chambers make a long enclosed descent whose staffed ledger remains the retreat.
People who make the place legible:
- Hang Writ-Keeper Varo Sound (room 3445): WRIT LIST, healing, line signals and Sounded observations.
- Deep-Line Quartermaster Eryn Ledger (room 3445): freight, emergency stock, load limits and lower-route consequences.
Why it matters locally: The deep-line relay makes medicine and lamp supply observable. Sounded evidence and root materials move upward with an authored destination instead of vanishing into a generic vendor.
Warning
The Undercount is the level-eighty-nine culmination and excluded from ordinary work. A room near Ledger Stone may still belong to a much deeper branch.
8. Wyrm's Crack & Line's End (levels 90-100)¶
Reach it: Follow the last counted descent to the protected Line's End, then enter only the terrace, rift and anvil branches named on the proof table.
Shape of the ground: Glazed approaches, ember terraces, kept lights and the final forge yard form a complete endgame complex with one narrow institution at its edge.
People who make the place legible:
- Crack Proof-Keeper Kest Harrow (room 3477): WRIT LIST, terrace provenance and the Firstforged exclusion.
- Rift Receiver Mael Stillglass (room 3477): healing, emergency stock, quarantine and material destinations.
Why it matters locally: Rift returns become repairs, warnings, research, claims or quarantines. Relay arrival, shortage and closure change the glass-fronted shelf and the price of scarce imports.
Warning
The Firstforged is level one hundred, singular and never a routine writ. Line's End is a recovery and evidence office, not a claim that the Crack is governed or domesticated.
Level seventy-nine is an interval¶
Ash Perch's authored population ends at level seventy-eight and Root Hang begins at eighty. The Ledger Stone makes seventy-nine explicit as passage, preparation and return practice. It is socially and economically active—staff, healing, supply, freight and the counting-line all matter—but it is not a fake hunting ground. Work the Perch until ready, then move into the Hang at eighty.
The Last Road Compact is not a town¶
Survey Return, Standing Lantern, Cold Stall, Windward Stone, Ledger Stone and Line's End do not create a bank, sovereign government or full settlement on the Wyrmcrown. Together they form a thin expedition institution: witnessed departure, local work, emergency medicine, freight custody, material provenance and a named duty to search. Existing guides retain their histories; new clerks, surgeons, factors, porters and trail walkers give those stations observable daily work and memory-driven reactions.
Freight has visible consequences¶
Rurik Bale's Crownward relay changes transport at each leg—pack animal, porters, sledge and chain cradle—rather than pretending a wagon reaches the Crown. Eryn Ledger's deep-line relay serves the lower stations. Their current region creates a delivery signal; heavy snow, blizzard, storm fronts and cold snaps can hold them. Participating shelves then remove named imports, expose local or emergency substitutes, adjust offers and state the reason in SHOP.
Singular threats stay singular¶
Local task desks deliberately exclude the Choirmaster, graven sexton, castellan, gilded provost, blind vigilant, pin anchorite, Firstpresent, Undercount and Firstforged from ordinary repeatable quotas. These remain apex, saga or social culminations. Routine progression uses stable resident populations and never requires a rare, seasonal, weather-gated or intermittent appearance.
Future creature docket¶
The Compact records stormmantle hounds, oathplate bailiffs, chainmidges and nullglass remoras as future expansion leads, not live spawns. Any later creature wave must add a habitat, level purpose, named witness, material or evidence destination, ambient signs, appearance conditions, atlas label and an explicit quiet-road boundary.
