Accounts & Character Select

A web account is one identity above all your characters: browser play starts from it, claimed characters log in without a password, and the account page keeps each hero's saga progress and permanent feats. Telnet needs no account and never will — the classic name-and-password login is unchanged.

Creating an account

Register at /register.html (or the Create Account button on the main site): an email address and a password of 8+ characters. Registration signs you in immediately and lands on your account page at /play/account.

The account password and a character's password are separate credentials. Changing one never changes the other.

Claiming characters

A character belongs to at most one account, ever. Ownership is proven with the character's own password — the one you already log in with — so no email needs to exist on any old record. Two ways to claim:

Explicitly, on the account page: the Claim a character card takes the character's name and password.

Automatically: while signed in on the web, log into any character the classic way (or forge a new one). The successful login is itself the proof, and the character claims to your account on the spot. New heroes forged while signed in are claimed the moment they enter the world.

One claim, forever

A character claimed by another account is refused even with the correct password — that is a stolen-password conversation for a GM, not a race the database arbitrates.

A web connection with a signed-in account skips the name prompt entirely:

Type a number or name to select:
  • A number or listed name logs that hero in with no password — the claim already proved ownership. Bans and the duplicate-session boot still apply exactly as in the classic flow.
  • N (or NEW / FORGE) begins ordinary character creation.
  • An unlisted name falls through to the classic name-and-password login, so an unclaimed character is always still reachable.

Browser play is account-first

The browser client serves only to a signed-in account; visiting /play/ signed out redirects to the account page. Telnet (phoenixsagas.servegame.com 4000, TLS 4443) requires no account at all.

The account page

/play/account holds:

Your heroes Every claimed character — name, level, profession, last seen. Click one for its trophy shelf: saga chapters (with live kill tallies) and permanent feats with the dates earned.
Claim a character The explicit claim flow.
Account password Change the account credential (the character passwords are untouched).
