Empath

An Empath heals by accepting responsibility for another person's pain. BEAR removes an injury from the patient and converts it into a calling-specific burden; self-mending magic, Health, Stamina, Resolve, and recovery determine how much care the Empath can sustain.

Building the character

Resolve drives circle force and burden capacity. Vigor is an aptitude because the body is part of the calling's work. Conditioning deserves unusual attention: it improves the resources that let an Empath survive care under pressure. Attunement and Insight support mana and awareness.

Useful priorities include:

  • Conditioning and enough defensive training to stay alive;
  • Channeling and Spirit Attunement;
  • Empath's Wheel toward the self-repair actually needed;
  • Lesser and Greater Breath for chosen support, cleansing, or travel tools;
  • Field Medicine for tending and remedy use.

Use TRAIN for live prices. The Empath's exceptional Fitness path is an authored calling choice, not an exception pasted into a shared caster table.

BEAR and burden

The care sequence is active:

DIAGNOSE MARA
BEAR MARA LEFT LEG
BEAR MARA ANY
HEALTH

BEAR removes one wound or scar from the patient completely. It does not copy that wound onto the same location of the Empath's body. Instead, it adds borrowed pain to a burden reserve.

Fresh wounds create more burden than scars, and deeper injuries cost more. Accepting pain immediately drains Health and spends stamina equal to roughly half the burden taken. Accumulated burden temporarily weighs on Attack and Guard. Level and Resolve establish the base capacity; Field Medicine expands it and helps burden ease faster on Health-recovery pulses. Recovery nodes add their own further relief.

This creates a triage question: who needs to be made whole now, and how much pain can the Empath safely carry before resting?

Empath's Wheel

The dedicated circle restores the Empath's own health, wounds, nerves, scars, and reserves; it also contains offensive and diagnostic workings. Lesser and Greater Breath add shared wards, cleansing, sanctuary, passage, and spiritual control.

Self-repair is not a remote generic heal. To mend another person, first use BEAR; then manage the cost and restore yourself. SPELLS shows the current rank and mana requirements separately from each catalogue code.

Some high workings can leave a temporary imprint that extends the reach of later care. Reach changes where BEAR can act, not what its burden costs.

Remedies and clinic work

Empaths can combine profession care with TEND, Bind/Knit/Renew remedies, and town healer services. Clinic patients appear only where an active Empath can serve them, making healing a social and economic loop rather than background flavor.

Remedies remain useful even with an Empath present: they stabilize bleeding, close manageable wounds, and preserve burden capacity for cases only the Empath can solve cleanly.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting BEAR to create a matching wound on the Empath.
  • Taking one more patient when health, stamina, or burden is already unsafe.
  • Buying repair workings without enough mana to use them after bearing an injury.
  • Treating Field Medicine and remedies as competition instead of capacity management.
  • Neglecting Guard because the calling works in a clinic; patients also happen on trails.
