News & patch notes
Every update, dated and versioned — and the running game tells you exactly which build you're on, right in the connect banner. No character wipes, ever: the hero you forge today is yours through every version to come.
The founding era is open
Every character who walks the world before January 1st, 2027 carries the First Flame feat — and may wear the title the Firstkindled — permanently. When the era closes, no one will ever earn it again. Step in while the world is young.
v0.1.0 — The world becomes a game
July 22–23, 2026Boss fights you can read
- The most dangerous creatures now fight in tells: a readable windup, seconds to answer, and a verb that turns the blow — DODGE, or meet a charge with TACKLE or SBASH. Stunning a boss mid-windup breaks the attack entirely. See HELP DODGE.
- The warren chief learned three of them — an overhead cleaver you can dodge, a bull charge you can meet head-on, and an enraged full-circle arc that even a clean dodge only halves. He's tougher now, too. Bring friends, or bring reflexes.
Your saga begins
- Saga I — The Warren Beneath the Climb: a campaign in three chapters, from first blood on the trail to the chief's chamber. Steps note themselves as you play; each pays real experience; the next chapter opens the moment one closes. Type SAGA.
- Chapters land in order, and what lies ahead stays ??? until you reach it.
Feats — the permanent record
- Firsts and finishes are now recorded forever: first blood, the first telegraphed blow you answer, the chief felled, the saga written — each stamped with the day. Type FEATS.
- Some feats unlock titles in the herald's list (TITLE LIST) — earned, never invented.
- First Flame: every founding-era login carries the mark home, once, forever.
One account, all your heroes
- Accounts are live: create one, claim your existing characters with the passwords you already hold, and every visit after opens on character select — pick by number, no password, straight into the world.
- Your account page keeps the trophy shelf: every hero's saga progress and permanent feats at a glance.
- Telnet is untouched by all of it — name and password, byte for byte, forever.
The guild's weekly ledger
- Five bounty writs in a week pays a guild bonus; kept weeks grow a streak that sweetens it. Writs are never limited — the week gates only the bonus, and that promise is written into HELP BOUNTY.
A kinder first hour
- New arrivals are greeted by name at the fountain, the newcomer checklist now spells out the next keystroke, and finishing it hands you to the saga.
- The connect banner names the game and pins the exact build — every bug report now points at a precise version.
Before v0.1.0
the first twenty years of embersThe living world predates its version numbers: the composable INCANT grammar, the living NPCs with memory and moods, a thousand-room Frostspine, crafting and trades and justice and weather on a real clock. v0.1.0 is where the world started keeping notes.
