Terms of Service

Phoenix Sagas is a free text world, made by a small team and playable in your browser or over telnet. These terms are the agreement between you and us when you play. We've kept them as plain as we can.

1. Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account, signing in, or playing Phoenix Sagas (the "game"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the game. If you're playing on behalf of someone else, you're confirming you're allowed to accept these terms for them.

2. Who can play

You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account. Where the law in your country sets a higher minimum age for agreeing to online services on your own, that age applies to you instead. If you're under the age where you can agree by yourself, a parent or legal guardian must agree to these terms with you.

3. Your account

Your account is yours to look after. Keep your password to yourself, and let us know if you think someone else has gotten into your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account. One person, one account; please don't share logins or register accounts on someone else's behalf without their knowledge.

4. How to behave

Phoenix Sagas is a shared world with other real people in it. When you play (including in character names, chat, messages, boards, and anything else you can type), you agree not to:

• harass, threaten, impersonate, or abuse other players or staff;
• post content that is hateful, sexually explicit involving minors, or otherwise unlawful;
• cheat, exploit bugs for advantage, run bots or automated scripts against the game, or interfere with other players' ability to play;
• attack, overload, probe, or try to gain unauthorized access to the game, its servers, or other players' accounts;
• use the game to break the law or to send spam or scams.

Bugs are part of a text world. Finding one is fine and reporting it is welcome. Quietly farming one for advantage is not. If you're unsure whether something's allowed, ask a GM.

To enforce these rules, the game runs an automatic language filter. A line that trips it ( in any channel, including whispers) is masked in play and logged in its original form for GameMaster review (see the Privacy Policy).

5. This is a beta

The game is in active development. That means things change, break, and get rebuilt. We may add, remove, or overhaul features; take the game down for maintenance; and reset or wipe characters, progress, or the whole world as the game evolves. We will avoid resets where reasonably possible and warn you when we cannot. Please play in that spirit: enjoy the world as it is today rather than counting on any particular thing lasting forever.

6. No purchases, no pay-to-win

Phoenix Sagas is free, and we never sell power, gear, stats, or advantage. Characters, items, silver, and everything else you earn in the game live inside the game: they have no real-world cash value, can't be cashed out, and aren't your property outside the world. If we ever offer anything for money in the future, we'll say so clearly and it won't be an advantage you can buy.

7. What you write in the game

You keep ownership of the names, text, and other content you create. By putting it into the game, you give us permission to store, display, and share it as part of running Phoenix Sagas (for example, showing your chat to other players in the room, or your character on your account page). You're responsible for what you submit, and you confirm you have the right to submit it.

8. Suspension and closing accounts

If you break these terms or disrupt the game for others, we may warn, mute, time out, ban, or remove your account or characters. The in-game moderation tools (kick, timeout, ban) exist for exactly this. We aim to be fair and proportionate. You can stop playing and ask us to close your account at any time.

9. The game is provided "as is"

We offer Phoenix Sagas as a free, best-effort labor of love, without warranties of any kind. We don't promise the game will always be available, error-free, secure, or that your data will never be lost; see the beta note above. To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the game, and because the game is free, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us, which is nothing.

Some places don't allow certain warranty or liability exclusions; where that's true, the parts that can't apply to you simply don't, and the rest still stand.

How we handle your data is covered in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the game grows. When we make a meaningful change, we'll update the version and date at the top and note it where players will see it. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the updated terms.
